These days, Social Media is a technological development which has altered our lives. People are using Facebook, Twitter, Google plus and other social media tools every moment and every day. Using Social Network has become an important habit because Social Network allows us to easily connect with friends, communicate with friends, watch information and news, and share funny stuff for us. Because of that, there are more companies are starting to implement Social Medias for attracting customers and readers, in order to enhance business brand to be stronger, create huge market, and earn more money. On the other hand, companies also use Social Networking for increasing their staff morale, and gaining more expertise and resource of enterprise, and creating great communicated and working environment among employees. Social Networks are being used by more and more companies to enhance collaboration both internally and externally.

This week, my team mates and I’d like to talk about what the objectives, and how Social Networks could assist achievements for OB (Origami Bear).  One of the important processes where a Social Network could assist OB in achieving is creating a great environment for staff by using the internal wiki page. Internal wiki page is able to be an E-learning platform which allows organisation to increase their working effect, save much money on paper work, and reduce much time for travelling because TIME IS MONEY. Employees are able to easily share their knowledge, and collaborate for build a huge knowledge database. E-learning is able to be a great platform for training new employees as well. On Using Wikis for Learning and Collaboration, Connie described many benefits of using the wiki to be an E-learning platform. One of advantages is that employees are able to collaborate wiki page together for building a huge knowledge database by sharing their experience. This method allows employees to easily find solution to problems. Saving money is another aspect for implementing wiki platform. Companies are able to reduce much cost of printing papers, cost of employ tutors. Employees can simply catch the resources on the internal wiki platform. Consequently, wiki page as E-learning platform is exactly able to bring many advantages for organisations.

Using Social Networking to help work to be more effective, and save much money

Saving money and reducing cost is the feature for Social network strategies that OB could employ to achieve their objectives by using SaaS (Software as a Service). According to Wikipedia, SaaS is a software delivery model in which software and associated data are centrally hosted on the cloud. SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client via a web browser. Because of influence of online social networks, there are numerous SaaS provide online features to allow their user to able to collaborate and share information on the Cloud. Google Drive and DropBox are the examples. Those software provide space to allow user to easily manage their projects and documents online. People are able to share their documents, and collaborate via Google Drive and DropBox as well. Using this method is not only able to make employees to be more effectively do their projects, but also can help company save much money.

In the previous post, I mentioned the strategies of blogging and miro-blogging for OB (Origami Bear). I hope that had enough information for everyone.  This week, my team mates and I’d like to describe how OB will be more successful by using the wiki, and what the strategies which OB would be implemented on the wiki.

According to Wikipedia, the name of Wikipedia is a portmanteau of the words wiki (wee kee wee kee) which means “quick” from the Hawaiian word and encyclopedia. Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free-content and openly editable encyclopedia platform which allows everyone to create, collaborate and modify the page.

In Benefits and Risks of Enterprise 2.0 this post, I revealed an example of British Telecom (BT) Company which has an internal website that calls BTpedia. BTpedia allows employees of BT to collaborate with other workers, and edit their experience for sharing to other workers. BTpedia is not only allows all employees to have a good communication with others, but also many employees learned lots of knowledge via it.

How company implement a successful corporate wiki?

There are seven strategies for implementing wiki from  Brad Kenney‘s article

  • Integrate the wiki as one of several important tools in an organization’s IT collaboration architecture.
  • Understand the wiki “rules of conduct” and ensure they are monitored and enforced.
  • Optimize the use of wikis for collaborative knowledge creation across geographically dispersed employees, and for crossing divisional or functional boundaries, in order to gain insights from people not previously connected.
  • Assign a champion to each wiki and have that champion observe contributions that people make to the wiki; the champion will help foster employees who adopt the important “shaper” role within the wiki.
  • Recognize that the most difficult barrier to cross in sustaining a wiki is convincing people to edit others’ work; organizations should ask their champion and managers to help with this.
  • Recognize that a significant value of wikis comes from embedding small software programs into the wiki that structure repetitive behavior. Some include organizing meeting minutes, rolling up project status or scheduling meetings. Ask wiki participants to keep watching for repetitive activity to evolve and enhance wiki technology.
  • Understand wikis are best used in work cultures that encourage collaboration. Without an appropriate fit with the workplace culture, wiki technology will be of limited value in sharing knowledge, ideas and practices.

NOW, I will start to talk about the wiki strategies for OB

OB (Origami Bear) is an independent game development studio with upcoming projects to be released in future. Although OB hasn’t implement wiki to be a tool now, OB believe they will implement wiki in the future because implementing wiki is able to offer the greater relationship between company itself and customers, and a useful method to employee of OB for dealing the project, and sharing knowledge among others. The strategy which I will describe is that OB will through effective integration of blog and wiki, and links to other resources, and will effectively be integrated, in order to emphasise on the organisation and development of the outputs of different results. Also, wiki is able to be a e-learning platform for the internal employees.

Combination of wiki and blogging

Wiki and blog are the great tools. Consequently, if these two tools combine together, that will be a bloody effective weapon for organisations. Customers and reader are able to visit many pages by using the links and references to other resources. This method also allows customers and readers to have more information and further reading. In addition, the effective integration allows OB to have more emphasises on itself and development of the outputs of different results.

To be a E-learning platform for staff

There are many advantages of using wiki to be an e-learning platform. Staffs are able to easily alter their content, and search learning sources, they are also able to fit their experience to quickly meet personal learning goals and navigate the content. Another benefit is that is that this platform is able to reduce the costs of paper and travelling fees. Employees are able to save much money by using this platform. Also, staffs are able to easily have community with others.

However, implementing wiki is able to provide many benefits for OB, because wiki is a great platform for collaboration and collaborative knowledge creation.

Do you agree that the social media tools have altered our life?

In my opinion, I’m totally agree. Nowadays, browsing the internet world is being the basic homework and the most important thing in our life now. The internet world not only provides much news online and much information, but also making the relationship between people to be closer. Meanwhile, we like to utilize social media tools for writing and sharing everything such as journal and photo, browse friends’ blogs, and leave comments. Those new interactive methods via the internet are be generally called Web 2.0. Wed 2.0 allows people to interact, contribution, creation, and collaboration with other people via the social media tools such as Wiki, Facebook, Blog, Twitter and many many Web 2.0 tools.

And now, I’m going to describe what the new Web 2.0 tools I signed up, and how these tools assist in my personal productivity.


I have been starting to use Twitter since 2 weeks ago. In my personal opinion, it is quite better than Facebook, because the platform of Twitter is clearer. Twitter only allows user to type 140 characters. I extremely like this function because it allows me to shortly and easily read the messages.  Also, Twitter is great tool to meet new friends, and follow people status.

Blog (WordPress)

Using blog was a fresh experience to me, because it was the first time to write blog. I did many researches for using blog these days, and I realised many stuff of blog. However, I’m just starting to use WordPress for 2 weeks. So far as beginner’s concerned, WordPress has many simple functions to use, and the clear platform. I felt free to use WordPress, although I’m still exploring it.


Instagram is an online album application of mobile phone. It provides a simple platform and operation. Users are able to take photos, decorate photos, and share photos on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media in anytime and anywhere, user also can see friends or other people’s photo and leave comments. For myself, I like to see the sneaker photos which share from some sneaker collectors. Instagram is great social media tool to create your own online album.


Wikipedia is a free, collaboratively edited, and multilingual Internet encyclopaedia supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. My personal opinion is that Wiki is great tool to search information. I really like to read on Wikipedia, because it has many articles, and it also provides many references which is able to help me to have the further reading. Wikipedia allows me to simply get many ideas of research and useful information, and improve my knowledge.
